The New Zealand Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society has, since 1983, run an annual symposium in conjunction with the Division’s Annual General Meeting. In the early days these were quite modest affairs with only one or possibly two speakers and fairly limited subject matter as a consequence. In the early 1990’s the Symposium took on the current form, a one or two day event that included the Aeronautical Society AGM and Dinner for members and their guests. Awards that are provided by the New Zealand Aeronautical Trusts are presented to outstanding contributors to New Zealand Aviation at the dinner.
The 2008 symposium comprised of two one-day events. The first in Auckland on 19 Mar 08 covered the topic of "Alertness & Errors in Safety-Critical Industries: Managing the Effects of Fatigue". The second, which included the formal dinner, was held in Wellington on 28 Mar 08 covering the topic of "Sustainable Aviation". For additional information on each event click here.
The subject matter covered by previous symposia has been very wide ranging and papers have been presented by senior people from the industry, regulatory authorities, the military, and the academic world as well as respected people from the community, government, and business. |
