Hi All,
Our presenter will be Squadron Leader Simon Shaw (who some of you met at Ohakea).   Simon came to us from the RAF where he was a QFI and Pilot on the Nimrod Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
He will talk to us about flying the Nimrod and RAF maritime operations.   I am really looking forward to that.
Why the photo of the Shadow R1?.… Simon flew these as well though probably he won't be able to tell us much about them.

Hi All,

We are going to show the DVD of the PBY Catalina that we endeavoured to play at our (notorious) February non-Meeting this year…. We were overtaken by technology then and it didn't work.

The DVD features a walk around, description and flight of the aircraft you viewed at Ohakea. We have decided to show the video as a result of the huge level of interest our Members showed in the aircraft at Ohakea.

Speaker: Flt Lt Alexander JOEL  -  RAAF

Subject:  RAAF and RNZAF Experiences and the RAAF E-7A Wedgetail 
Our speaker is currently an exchange pilot with 14 Squadron RNZAF at Ohakea. He is going to talk about his experiences in the RAAF and RNZAF and also as much of his experience flying the RAAF's E-7A Wedgetail AEW&C aircraft as security allows.
Alex is from Paradise Point in Queensland Australia and joined the RAAF in 2004. After completing flying training he operated on the E7-A Wedgetail at No. 2 Squadron RAAF. In 2012 he was posted to Central Flying School to attend a Flying Instructors Course on the PC-9/A and then continued to fly the PC-9/A as a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) in Perth as part of No. 2 Flying Training School. Alex is with 14 Squadron RNZAF as the Australian exchange QFI.

Speaker: Prospero (Paco) Uybaretta of the Martin Aircraft Company, manufacturers of the MARTIN JET PACK.
Paco is a retired USAF Test Pilot from Nellis AFB. He is currently the Head of Aircrew and Testing and Chief Test Pilot for the Martin Aircraft Company in Christchurch. He has been an Experimental Test Pilot for several aviation companies since leaving the USAF where he was involved in numerous test programmes. This visit is sponsored by the Massey University School of Aviation and all Members of the Branch are most welcome to attend.

The Force Protection Unit is based at RNZAF Base Ohakea. Aaron has been a member of the Air Force since 2003 and involved with operations in the Solomons, Afghanistan, and Iraq in support of RNZAF fixed wing assets. This promises to be a very interesting presentation on a subject that kind of 'flies under the radar' so let's have a good turn-out on the night.

We will receive a briefing on the current operations of the Company.

The Branch has previously attended that facility quite some time ago. Those of you who were at that presentation will remember where it is situated (on the opposite side of the airfield from the main hangars and buildings). Entry is on the right off Taonui Road 200 metres or so from the intersection with Waughs Road.

Please be careful arriving as it is close to a bend in the road and there is no roadside lighting. There is parking in the vicinity of the Avcraft facility. There will be no Tea/Coffee/Biscuits at the end of the meeting so suggest you fuel up before you come.

Pat has served in the Police for over 40
years. He first deployed to Timor-Leste in

Our Speaker will be Group Captain Rick Bulger RNZAF (Rtd) who has kindly stepped into the breach and is travelling from Wellington to address us on 'FLYING THE
SUNDERLAND AND ORION'. Rickhas had an extensive career in the aviation sector including Base Commander at Ohakea from 1988 to 1993 and joining the CAA as
Manager Safety Audit and later Head of Professional Standards.

It promises to be a very interesting address so let's have a good turnout. Treasurer Dave will be running the meeting as I am off overseas again (to a warmer clime) for a few days. Any queries to Dave or Secretary Barry whilst I'm away please.

Andrew Vialoux from the Massey University's School of Aviation will give us a presentation on the School's RPAS (aka Drones - for we uninitiated) Course covering an Introduction to Regulations and Operator Conduct. A very topical subject indeed!

Treasurer David and I will also present those 2015 accounts for the Branch and the Airports Gallery Trust for your consideration and (hopefully) your approval.
I would also like some discussion please on how the Branch is going and any ideas to improve what we do and the service we provide to Members. Can you give that some thought please before the meeting?

PROPOSED FUTURE BRANCH PROGRAMME ….

JULY 12th – Showing a DVD from the History Channel Dogfights Series on "Aerial Gun Kills in Vietnam." This is a sort of follow-on from my address at our May meeting on the USS Midway.

JULY – EXTRA MEETING - We hope to arrange a joint meeting with the local Manawatu Scale Model Club. This will involve another meeting date and change of venue. More on that later.

AUGUST 9th – Fall-back date suggested to Jetstar. Not yet confirmed.

SEPTEMBER 13th - Working on having a brief on the Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School which has just celebrated its 50th Anniversary. We are considering supporting a local young person to attend the flying school which is held at Matamata in January of each year. Again, more on that later.

The incoming International President of the Society, Air Chief Marshall Sir Stephen Dalton RAF (Rtd) is to give a public lecture on the subject "REFLECTIONS ON THE ROLE OF AIR POWER IN CONTEMPORARY COALITION OPERATIONS" to be held at the Massey University Manawatu Campus SSLBV1 on Monday the 4th of April at 1.00 p.m.. Everybody welcome. Let's have a good turnout for what promises to be a very interesting and informative lecture. The venue is in the Social Sciences Lecture Block which is just in front of the University Library.
